Can a Christian have a demon
For years we; meaning the church has been taught or lead to believe that a Christian cannot have a demon. I will not argue with anyone on this subject but I will do my best to explain how Christians have demons.
Our promise (Xxtreme Ministries) to you is we will not teach you anything that we have not seen, experienced, or been a part of. We will only teach you what we find in the word and without taking scripture out of context show you in the word of GOD what HE says on the demonic.
You will not hear us say a Christian is possessed; as a Christian cannot be possessed, a person would have to renounce GOD in order to be possessed. Christians can be oppressed or demonized. Question, can you find anywhere in the bible when JESUS cast out a demon that HE said get off him; or did HE say come out! HE said come out indicating that the demon or demons were inside.
Matt 16:23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind (NT:5217) me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men." NIV. Here is the only case were JESUS said get away from me as we read below in the Greek/Hebrew definition.
NT:5217hupago (hoop-ag'-o); from NT:5259 and NT:71; to lead (oneself) under, i.e. withdraw or retire (as if sinking out of sight), literally or figuratively:
KJV - depart, get hence, go (a-) way.
You need to understand the three part nature of man. We are all composed of three parts, body, soul, and spirit, our body is the flesh part of us that carries our or houses our spirit man, and our soul, is our mind, will, and emotions. This is the devils play ground. Then there is our spirit. Our spirit man is eternal, and it will be eternal in heaven or in hell, the place prepared for satan and the fallen angles. Our spirit man is the dwelling place of the HOLY SPIRIT.
Several deliverance ministries teach that the body is not an apartment complex, that the HOLY SPIRIT and a demon cannot dwell in the same vessel, yet every place in the bible that JESUS cast out a demon, he told it to get out or come out.
Mark 1:21-28
21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. 23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out, 24 "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are — the Holy One of God!"
25 "Be quiet!" said Jesus sternly. "Come out of him!" 26 The evil spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.
27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, "What is this? A new teaching — and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him." 28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.
NIV
Mark 9:25-27
25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the evil spirit. "You deaf and mute spirit," he said, "I command you, come out of him and never enter him again."
26 The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, "He's dead." 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.
NIV
Mark 5:1-13
5:1 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. 2 When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit came from the tombs to meet him. 3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him any more, not even with a chain. 4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.
6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7 He shouted at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that you won't torture me!" 8 For Jesus had said to him, "Come out of this man, you evil spirit!"
9 Then Jesus asked him, "What is your name?"
"My name is Legion," he replied, "for we are many." 10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.
11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12 The demons begged Jesus, "Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them." 13 He gave them permission, and the evil spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.
NIV
There are some ministries that say you shouldn’t talk to demons. When we minister to a person we command the demons to speak to us. Just like in a war we need to how and why that demon is there so we can be sure it has no right to come back to you. We just read scripture were JESUS spoke to demons!
Brenda visited a ministry that did a great work, but the people she talked to said that every six months or so they have to come back and deal with the same issues. That tells me the legal right was not dealt with or that person entered back into the sin that allowed him in the first place. In most cases it is that the legal right was never broke. The demon will leave but has a right to come back. (note; legal rights are what gives demons an entry into your life and will be covered in another lesson.)
Mark 8:33
33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. "Get behind me, Satan!" he said. "You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."
NIV
Even Peter was overcome with demonic oppression and was rebuked by JESUS. Not every thought that enters your mind is holy. Our enemy plants suggestions in our minds and may even imitate the voice of GOD. Being the flesh people we are, we allow or except the most likely answer or solution. Always test what you hear. Does it line up with the word? Does it agree with GOD’S SPIRIT within you?
Over the years that we have ministered and the years our mentors (40 years+) have ministered, thousands of Christians that believed they couldn’t have a demon have been set free from oppression of the enemy. I want you to examine your life and see if anything I am about to mention applies to your life. When we look for demonic oppression we look for behavior that is not considered normal. When you get anger you what to hurt someone or punch holes in the walls. A pain in your body that moves from one part to another. You can’t put down porn or lust after the opposite sex or even the same sex. You can’t quite smoking or drinking, have an addiction to drugs legal or illegal. You are dealing with some of the same medical, mental, or emotional problems your mom or dad, or your grandparents had. All these are indicators of demonic oppression.
We can honestly say 80 to 90 % of Christians have demons oppressing them, keeping them from reaching their full potential in CHRIST. Don’t shut me off yet! I have a couple more points to cover.
Christians oppressed with demons will go to heaven. It does not affect your salvation. But it will keep you from reaching your full calling in CHRIST, and it can keep you sick or in pain, even addicted to things you would like to stop. Demon oppression can stop you from making right choices. Paul said in Rom 7:20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. The sin living in him is controlled by a demonic influence (another message).
Satan does not want you walking in the fullness of what GOD has for you, he wants to steal from you, he wants to make you sick, anything to keep you from doing GOD’S will. Our enemy has a foothold in the church and he don’t want you laying hands on the sick or casting out demons. Mark 16;17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well." NIV.
We try to explain away our bad behavior and we are ashamed to let someone know of our imperfections when the truth is we all have issues some were passed down from our parents, some we took on ourselves. Whatever your problem is JESUS can fix it, HE gave you and me the power to overcome the enemy. It is rare that a person can initially expel demons from themselves. Please don’t let pride keep you from your freedom, your health, and most of all your closeness to the FATHER.
Our promise to you is that we will never divulge any information shared during a deliverance session and your privacy means everything to us. We don’t get any joy from your hurts, but we do take joy in your freedom and healing.
